Kanaya grew up in the desert of Alternia, the home planet of the warlike spacefaring race known as Trolls. However, her early life was peaceful, far removed from the rest of her society. Kanaya’s rare blood and even rarer lusus-guardian – a Mother Grub who abdicated her mass-childbearing matriarch status to remain a virgin and raise only one troll child – set her apart starting from her birth and pupation. Kanaya was strange in a lot of ways – her species is naturally nocturnal, violent, and utilitarian, while Kanaya enjoys fashion, gardening, and the scorching sunlight. Not that she doesn’t entertain violent fantasies, mostly of the grim and horrific.
She made friends from across the planet, mostly to play games with, though such games were far from her favorite pursuit. The mysterious technology surrounding her, recovered from the ruins in which her hive is built, does not make her any more comfortable or confident with computers, and she often has to ask for assistance from her more tech-savvy friends.
She’s had a weird feeling for most of the last sweep, like something important is going to happen, but has pegged it to the impending death of her lusus. After all, when a virgin mother grub abdicates and renounces brooding, her time will always be relatively short.
Personality: Kanaya is a dreamer. Her isolation and unique lusus mean she was raised away from much of the bloodthirsty and cutthroat majority of Alternian society. The hemospectrum means very little to her – although her jade blood, despite being mid-spectrum, is a very respected shade – and she is friends with trolls regardless of caste. Her caring nature also leads her to be a little too helpful – she’s been described as fussy and meddling, and her interactions often appear to be pale advances, despite most trolls viewing such activities as promiscuous and unfaithful to one’s moirail. Vriska doesn’t seem to mind too much, though their moirallegiance is far from typical – not least because Kanaya’s feelings for her run a little redder. Yet another trait differing Kanaya from most other trolls is that she prefers females in her quadrants, at least the conscupient ones. Queerness has no meaning in troll social circles, but if it did Kanaya would be as queer as they come – both as a lesbian and with regard to her pale/ashen promiscuity.
Kanaya may be kind, but she’s far from gentle, taking action when needed. She’s not always quick to make decisions (especially regarding her own life) but in a moment of crisis Kanaya is the one to step forward.
When under stress she has a tendency to become increasingly verbose, more so even than her usual speech, which is very clear, careful, and precise.
As mentioned in her History, she has a passion for tales of light, undead monsters, blood-drinking creatures, and all that Alternia has to offer in the genre that on Earth would be called horror. Rainbow drinkers and zombies are, of course, entirely real, unlike fairies and magic. Kanaya is much too sensible to venture far enough from her hive and the protection of her lusus to fight them, though. She simply reads and daydreams.
Abilities & physical limitations: Kanaya’s abilities are normal for a troll of her age, though she is able to tolerate the intense Alternian sunlight much better than her peers. Her skills are mostly things like sewing and gardening – though she gardens with a chainsaw, let’s be clear here – and she lacks the psychic abilities of some of her friends. Jadebloods are caretakers by nature – rare, in their warlike society – so her capacity for compassion is another great strength.
Appearance: Kanaya’s slender build would be described as “petite” if she wasn’t tall for her age. She keeps her charcoal-black hair cut short and styled smoothly away from her face and neck with pins and product. She’s certainly strong – she gardens with a chainsaw – but she’s fit rather than athletic, with a bit of curve over her lean muscle. Her wide yellow eyes are just beginning to show a narrow hint of jade around the pupil, a sign of her impending maturation to adulthood. Kanaya is one of the only trolls to think fashion is anything worth pursuing, and she wears neat dresses and skirts of her own design and make, in all sorts of colors. She’s fond of layering and lively patterns. Wearing makeup is much more common among trolls, and Kanaya often wears her signature jade green lipstick, when she’s not painting them blacker than black. The word to describe her, in dress and behavior, is elegant.

In-game abilities: The Star represents a moment of renewed hope, inspiration and discovery. It is a force of optimism and light, but also balance, regeneration, and serenity.

Planet: Land of Sunshine and Rainbows. A constantly-sunny land, much like the desert of Alternia, but not one hostile to life. The earth appears to be made of crystal – the majority of the land is fine sand, but there are prism-like chunks scattered around the landscape, tossing rainbows of refracted light everywhere. The consorts are large indigo mice who are concerned about the recent weather – that is, cloudy and stormy patches have begun to appear on the face of the Land.
